We had a big sleep in and didn’t leave the hotel until about 10.30, but you could have shot a cannon down any of the streets in the old town and not have come close to hitting anyone for another couple of hours. It was so quiet.
There was some cute wall art… I know they have small cars here, but that parking spot is meant for a bike, right? Even if he’s not quite in the lines.

And fountains galore!

The population of Chur is about 40,000, and walking around – in the old town alone – we counted no less than 30 hairdressing salons (I googled and there are 75 in Chur)… interspersed with skincare shops and lifestyle interior shops. There is absolutely no reason why people here shouldn’t look amazing and have perfectly styled homes!

Also lots of cute cafes…
Not sure if Ernest Hemingway was ever in Chur – apparently he did live in Switzerland for a time…he got a cafe named after him – unless it was named after the lesser known, but just as important, Kevin Hemingway?

This place is OLD, in fact Chur is the oldest town in Switzerland. Apparently it was inhabited from the Neolithic Age to Roman times, there is archaeological proof. The first finds even date back to the Palaeolithic Age, so we’re talking over 13,000 years ago.
Here’s a bit of building spam – sure these buildings are that old, but some do date back 100s of years.

They loved a painted faćade and I honestly can’t blame them.

I love these little cross over passage ways. Note the hat on one side and the little shoes on the other. There was a shop selling hats under the hat, but not sure the reason for the shoes.

And now for a bit of door spam…

And some doorway buildings…

Here’s another one of those vertical wall sundials.

This was the smaller church in town. There is also a cathedral, but it was up a lot of stairs… I’m sure it was lovely.

Chur seems to be really well preserved and is one of the best old towns we’ve seen on this trip. We did meander across the road to the modern part of town, but only for a minute… it’s not our scene anymore – we’re old town people now…. not sure where that leaves us when we get home.

Can’t wait for tomorrow – we’re boarding the Bernina Express to Tirano, Italy – just across the boarder!
