We’re in Switzerland!
To be more precise, we’re in Zurich for the morning before we catch the train down to Chur – pronounced Kürr… (don’t make the mistake we made 😬). So this morning we are just gonna wander the old town, cause that’s our thing.
We’re staying right near the train station and walking distance to half of the old area – the other half is across the river. Here’s a little of what we saw:
The Four Nymphs fountain statue personifies simplicity, purity, sobriety and charity. They symbolises international cooperation in providing people everywhere with pure and salubrious water.

In fact, the do say that it is pointless to buy water in Switzerland because the water here is the cleanest in the world and there are fountains everywhere!

We followed the little streets until we came to the one with the steps and I just had a feeling it was going to be a good view… (also the woman at the hotel told me)

At the top there was a park…

That overlooked the river and across to the other side…

Zurich is home to two fairly prominent churches – the 2 spired church is Grossmünster (below right)

And the spire on the left (below) is Fraumünster

Heaps of people were in the park, looking, sitting, eating their lunch with a view.

We looked at the houses surrounding the park. We couldn’t quite see into the windows, but we tried.

Zurich is pretty old – it has been permanently settled for over 2000 years. The Romans called it Turicum. There is even a Roman tombstone.

They love a good clocktower over here. This one is at St Peter’s and is apparently the biggest clock face on a tower in Europe.

There is lovely shopping here in Zurich, but we were good and bought nothing (except 1 pair of shoes for Me Jerry)

That was Zurich done – now to catch the train to Chur… Me Jen was pretty excited cause she loves herself a train ride. She was very optimistic taking that book out of her bag though.

Cause this was our first glimpse out the window…

There was just too much to look at…

So we got some refreshments and settled in for the show…

The photos really do not do the scenery justice.
Then just like that, we were in Chur!
We’re staying at the Stern Hotel in the old area of town – a real traditional Swiss hotel that’s been here 100s of years. It even has a Michelin Star (2019) restaurant – but their meals are very Bambi heavy and I’m just not ready for that.

So instead we went across the road for our dinner – another traditional Swiss place

I think people here usually eat a bit later than we do… the lady in there was a bit confused when we walked in asking for a table at “Nana O’Clock” and she sat us directly under the computer desk, possibly so it wasn’t so far for her to walk?
The food was delicious and we had the place to ourselves until a more civilised time when more people came in – just as we were leaving.

We’ll show you around the old town next…
