Sherlina Bernina – a train journey

Our main reason for coming to Switzerland was to ride the Bernina Express – a train with extra tall viewing windows that travels from Chur, through the Swiss Alps to Tirano, just over the Italian boarder.

We had the most amazing day today. The sun was shining and the scenery was breathtaking.

So prepare yourself for some mountain spam…

That was our first glimpse of snow (below on the right)

At the highest part of the railway – the ground was all frosty and… we went past a single cloud, just floating there.

Not sure what was happening here, but it looked like they were making snow. I’ve not been here in winter but I’m pretty sure the snow will just appear one day.

High on a hill lived a lonely goatherd…..

This is Lago Bianco, the White Lake – it’s a glacial reservoir, so it has a milky look about it… the train runs right along side of it.

In order to get up and over the mountains, the train line has a number of tunnels, bridges and twirly round abouts… this being one of them…

This little tin was filled with Lindt chocolate… was.

Ah-May-Zing!

I can’t wait to do it all again tomorrow, but backwards.
