Today’s view on waking… Modern Vienna.
But on the other side of the ship was old Vienna and where we are headed today for a little bus ride around the ring road, which is where all the important buildings are located and then a small walking tour…
Vienna is all about the beautiful architecture, the art galleries, museums and the music. Mozart lived in Vienna for the last 5-6 years of his life, but they claim him as their own. So, if you’re into classical music, history or art, this is the place for you… and because of that, the place is FULL of tourists (just like us)
Taking photos from a moving bus is not fun, so I’m limited on pics today and our guide mostly told us facts like, “… this building used to be something, now it belongs to the the insurance company of Vienna…” and although the building might have been beautifully baroque, the story didn’t interest me… in fact, I’m boring myself just talking about it now – apologies.
After the tour, we found a little gem of a place – a traditional Viennese coffee house called Cafe Leopold Hawelka.
This cafe was originally opened by Leopold and his wife Josefina in 1939. They had to close down because of the war, but when they returned in 1945, they found their cafe completely undamaged – not even a broken window, so they opened up again and became a haven for writers and artists.

We tried the traditional hot chocolate, sachatorte and apple strudel. Would recommend.
This chap has been on most of our ‘gentle’ walkers tours and he’s come in very handy when you can’t quite spot the guide with the flag.
