Today we said goodbye to Chur, the Bernina train and to the lovely Chur wall art…

We followed the edge of Lake Zurich until we reached the town of Rapperswil-Jona.

Rapperswil was founded back in 1229 and then about 760 odd years later, my cousin, Chris lived here. It was on her recommendation that we should make a stop here and by jingo by crickey… we’re glad we did. It is one of the most beautiful, picturesque & tranquil places I have ever been. Whichever way you turn your head, you feel like you could be in a painting.

Our hotel was fab – Hotel Jakob, just in the centre of the old town looking up to the castle.

And our room was very spacious and airy… and painted a pretty seafoam colour.

And… the best thing of all – the gold standard of hotel amenities – a bench to put 2 x suitcases on. Every other hotel in the world – please take note.

We were walking distance to everything, so we hopped to it and started exploring the minute we put our bags down… I think this is nearly every building in town.

And… here’s all the doors.

And bonus pretty door knob and lock.

They did make one error though… can you pick it?

Lots of squares…

And places to walk and admire the beauty…

The Curti Family had a few generations of notable people… they had a town mayor, a couple of national councillors, a publicist, a local community and church president and ol’ Merle down the bottom recorded it all as a historian. Actually after researching and following our family tree, I think the historian is a pretty important job and if everybody had thought to put their family details on the sides of their homes, it would have made the ancestry research a lot easier.

Another wall sun dial – I’m starting to understand how they work, although Me Jen and I both had the same thought at the same time – what did they do when it was cloudy? What did they do with a flat sun dial when there was no sun? Maybe that’s why this type of time telling eventually died out? Well done to whoever invented the first ‘next’ clock.

For dinner we thought we’d stay local and just went to the restaurant in our hotel. It was very nice and they use records as placemats!

Tomorrow, we’re going to turn right down another street where there is sure to be more buildings and doors to photograph.
