Port Douglas & Mossman Gorge

Up the road from Cairns is Palm Cove. A lovely spot on the beach with some pubs, cafes and fancy shops. We stopped off for a drink and a wander around on our way up to Port Douglas.

Finding a spot for these good looking vehicles was not easy.

Then onto PD. It was a lovely drive up the coast through Ellis Beach, Wangetti Beach & Oak Beach. It’s not far up the road, but with rubber necking the beaches and roadworks the whole way – it took most of the day. The last bridge we crossed the Mowbray River – home to a few crocs. We hopped out to have a look…

Not terribly exciting, but we can tick a box.

The BIG 4 Port Douglas Glengarry Holiday Park was lovely. We all decided that it was the most tranquil park we’d stayed in. It had good vibes and 2 blokes – both called Paul who drove around on their golf buggies backing people in. Very friendly and a great pool.

First stop on our look around Port Doug was 4 Mile Beach.

And a look down at the Main Street and around the other side of the point… how lovely is St Mary’s by the Sea. It’s non denominational now and is used a venue for weddings.

Mossman Gorge – let’s talk about it.

We had been planning visiting Mossman Gorge and couldn’t wait. This is one that you can swim in… apparently it’s too cold for crocs.

We crossed the scary suspension bridge and did a little rainforest walk first just to warm up before getting wet.

It was bloody cold – icy in fact – but I dove straight in anyway cause that’s the way I roll. 🤣 How’s my face.

Then once in… it was all smooth floating with the current and making sure we didn’t go over the rapid. Lucky those ladies were standing between us and the potential emergency situation.

This was an absolutely fantastic experience and something I’ve always wanted to do. Looking forward to more swims and more waterfalls.
