Bungle Bungles

While you’re in the Kununurra area, you might as well do a flight over the Bungle Bungles.

There are a few different companies that do pretty much the same route. We chose Kimberley Air and were happy with our choice. The plane was little – 12 passengers and two pilots. There’s not a lot of spare room for anything – including legs, but once in the air, you forget all about that.

This is where we’re going (the red route) Over the Kununurra River and Lake Argyle, over a couple of stations and the old Argyle Diamond mine, down to the Bungles Bungles, over the Ivanhoe Crossing and then back home. It was a 2 hour flight and besides the man two seats behind me literally throwing his guts up, it was an amazing flight.

The irrigation system is fantastic… too much info to share here, but look it up if you’re interested. I would never have imagined it to be so green up here.

The landscape is amazing… everything is so amazing!

We headed for Lake Argyle which is bloody huge!

Here’s the Lake Argyle Caravan Park where we were staying. From there you can only see a small percentage of the lake.

So many islands and bays and nooks for fresh water crocs to find their own space. With 1,000 sq km 75km long and 40 km across, 35,000 crocs would probably have quite palacial nests.

Is that a Bungle I can see?

The old Argyle Diamond mine

Back into Kununurra…

Over the Ivanhoe Crossing…

Then a smoothish landing. What a treat!

I could have added 47,000 more photos, but have capped it for your benefit. You’re welcome.
