In search of sea glass

Today was all about the search for sea glass, so we decided to rent a car and head to the beaches around the island.  In order to get our of the old town unscathed, it was also agreed that we should leave at the crack of dawn to avoid massive greyhound buses and the like on the narrow, windy roads.

So whilst Mykonos slept…..

We jumped into our convertible mini and were on our way.

The beaches are so much more beautiful without people on them.

Except this person, of course!

I loved driving this car and think perhaps it might be time for a change at home…..

Mykonos, being the party island that it is has lots of beach clubs….

🎶…Club Tropicana, drinks are free…. 🎶 RIP George.

The staff were in clean up mode when we arrived….. it’s not so glitzy in the daytime, even with a chaise lounge!

A beautiful outlook though at any time of the day.

The water here is crystal clear.

And much sea glass was collected….. yes, much more than this.

The beach bar at Elia Beach was very classy and didn’t look like people had just left from the night before…

So, this is where we decided to take a little break

and where I tried my first traditional cafe freddo…. essentially iced coffee with ice and pouring cream – it was deliciously creamy.

We came across a couple of island wildlife on our search…..

Nothing like your random goose on the beach

Ideal sea glass picking terrain

This is the beach where all the water sport activities happen.

And our water sport was eating lunch….

Zucchini fritters = delicious

Sardinis

And an interesting way of serving souvlaki

It was a great day to get stuck in and get our feet wet.

A swim was also had and the water was freezing.

Then as the roads got busier, it was time for us to head back, via a visit to the lighthouse at the top of the island

Which felt like the top of the world.
