We took the windy Oxley Highway across the mountains. It was a lovely drive, but not one you can set your cruise control on pop into the back to make a cuppa! There were herds of cows on the roads just doing a bit of grazing…

We arrived in Tamworth and headed straight to the BIG guitar…

It’s located at the Tamworth Information Centre that has ALL the Tamworth music awards listed in the little cafe at the back all the way back to 1973 which is where these couches could have been pulled from.

Taking a walk down the Peel Street we met up with some country music legends….

Then we stumbled upon the Mecca of Tamworth shopping….

These could have been purchased if they weren’t really uncomfortable.

It’s not a trip to Tamwoth without visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame…

Oh…. Chad Morgan! And that’s Chad’s guitar, proudly displayed just next to the toilets.

Nothing says country music like a blow wave and a sweater draped thusly over your shoulders. Tickets: $12

The reason that we made the trip inland and over the mountain and away from the coast was to go to the BIG Chill music festival in Armidale – just down the road from Tamworth. We purchased Kmart chairs, knee rugs and ponchos. With Armidale being the highest town in Australia it can get pretty chilly up there and we weren’t taking any chances.
The drive to Armidale was very picturesque and more cows on the road…

Fliss’ favourite band – The Pierce Brothers were playing at 1:45pm, so it was an early start for a couple of old boilers, but we got there in plenty of time. I’d never heard of The Pierce Brothers, nor any other bands in the line up, but as I’ll generally go to the opening of an envelope, I was there to experience it all.
There were food trucks, merch tents and even a “BBQ Alley” where butchers were giving demonstrations on how to section a lamb carcass (we missed this) and then also bbqing meat for punters to sample. One of the butchers has a podcast “The Meat Man”. I’m not sure how much meat talk there can be, but if it’s your passion, get onboard.

We had to respectfully bow out after Sneaky Sound System as Aunty Shell needed to lie down.
