Tully and the Big Gum Boot

Before we head to Cairns – let me tell you about Tully. We had planned to go to Tully to see the Golden Gumboot, but the rest of the day was purely by accident.

Tully is a little town inland from Mission Beach and famous for being the wettest town in Australia. It is also a major hub for sugar cane and bananas… it is also famous for its white water rafting – keep reading to see why.

The 7.9m Golden Gumboot was built in 2003 as a nod to the highest ever annual rainfall – 7,900mm in 1950.

Lunch was had at the Tully Bakery.

It was a rainy old day, but we tried to make the best of it and thought we’d do a rainforest drive… and found this…

And to top it off we spotted some wild piglets on our way home – a great day!
