Friends kept telling me about Mataranka, so it was always going to be on the to visit list.
We had a choice of Bitter Springs and Mataranka Springs – everyone had their own opinion on which one was better. There were 3 nights to play with so we decided to start at Bitter Springs and check out Mataranka during the day to see if we wanted to move over…. we ended up staying the whole 3 nights in Bitter Springs.
Our opinion was that the caravan park was much more salubrious. Tall trees shading the whole park, which had a natural feel to it where as Mataranka looked a little bit hot and dusty.
Fern’s little set up at the Bitter Springs Caravan Park… lovely and shady, but not so great on the Starlink.

There was a little issue with wild pigs coming into the park at night and going through the bins… we didn’t hear them, but they made a right mess and we worried a little for people sleeping in swags. A man rode around every morning cleaning up all the bins… apparently the pigs come into the park in the wet season when there’s not so many people around, so it’s a bit strange that they should be there now…. many they don’t realise the wet season is over…. I mean, has anyone mentioned it to them?

As far as the springs went, BS was again more natural and you flowed down like a lazy river, so you never felt like you were sitting in a pool with a lot of people – everyone floated along. At Mataranka there was a man-made wall built inside making it more of a pool. Still natural, but you seemed to just stand where you were standing. Still very beautiful, but our preference – BS.

The photos below are from Mataranka Springs…

After a hard morning’s floating, we would head back to Fern to do a bit of work….. Here’s Deb hard at work amongst the knickers and bras…

Here’s me ‘hard at work’… and it doesn’t actually look like Deb is doing much actual ‘work’.

It’s a shame to be leaving…. I would love to come back here.
