All the Falls – Leliyn (Edith Falls), Robin & Florence

We stayed at the Big 4 in Katherine on our last night there and got a spot right near the cafe and pool. Food was great – even people not staying in the park were parking up for dinner.

Next morning we headed north to Leliyn (Edith Falls).

These falls are quite subdued compared to the other falls around this area. Leliyn Falls are in the north part of the Nitmiluk National Park. We just drove in for a Quick Look. We didn’t swim as we needed to be in Litchfield before 5pm and there was a lot to see on the way.

I like to take the detours off the main highway otherwise you miss all the read good stuff…. and Pine Creek didn’t disappoint.

Pine Creek was established back in the 1871 gold rush and some inexplicable reason, at the back of the Lazy Lizard Tavern it has one of the best car/motor museums I’ve ever seen (I’ve seen about 3).

It was amazing and all dedicated to the owner’s sister. All entry fees go to Melanoma research.

Well done Pine Creek. And while we’re at it, we give Katherine an 8/10. A really nice, clean and tidy town.

Before getting to Litchfield I wanted to take the detour yet again and look at Robin Falls – Me Jen always talked about Robin Falls, but now that I’ve been there, I can not for the life of me comprehend how she would have seen it. It’s a moderate to hard walk over rocks for about 800 metres and then to get into the pool under the waterfall you need to have ninja style reflexes and spridermanlike grip. Deb and I managed it with grace, skill and a level of fluidity never seen before.

After a well earned swim in the very refreshing water – getting down was no easier… we were given a helping hand by a lovely young man who was clearly wondering what two old ladies were doing all the way up here… He said “It’s great to see you still out here adventuring.” STILL!!! How very dare you…. we slid the rest of the way down on our bums.

With a left turn into Litchfield National Park we stopped for the night at Litchfield Tourist Park – a very nice park, very shady and has a little cafe.

On the caravan park lady’s advice we got up nice and early to hit Florence Falls before the crowd got there – and thank goodness we did!!!

We had the whole place to ourselves which was magical!

As we were ready to leave, the hoards arrived…

We sat to dry off a bit… (can you spot Deb?) and I watched as people jumped over the water fully clothed waiting to capture the moment. nobody fell in.

On the way in we took the longer, flatter walkway that took you all the way along the river. It was absolutely stunning and full of butterflies. On the way out we decided to tackle the 162 steps back up to the carpark. We figured if we could get up to Robin Falls, we could do this. Deb had a little Princess Di rest half way up.

At the top of the stairs is this view!

Edith, Robin and Florence sound like 3 sisters from the 1800s. Well done to the Falls sisters.
