Fern and Felicity sitting in a tree

Sydney to Newcastle to pick up one of my oldest friends, the lovely Felicity, Fliss, Flick, Flicker. A fabulous travel companion, excellent cook (trained chef) and great at doing everything she tries her hand to. She also wants to reorganise my cupboards to make things more efficient and I’ve never been happier.

We didn’t stay in Newcastle though, we headed straight for Nelson Bay and pulled into Halifax Holiday Park right on the point with bays on either side of us and a site right next to the walkway to the beach. We got straight down there and walked around to Shoal Bay for some quick hydration and picked up some bits and pieces for our first dinner – snaggers, steak, mushrooms and onions cause you don’t make friends with salad!

This was our first try of using the second bed and she set up like a dream. I did think that Fliss would be too tall to fit on there, but she said she was super comfy and is getting 85-100% sleep scores on her watch, so I’ll stop asking her if she’s comfy. Also, she says I don’t snore.

First morning, Fliss got up early to climb Mt Tomaree (cause why not?) and got some beautiful views… I stuck with Fern to do some domestic jobs and welcomed the morning rabibits… We walked into the Sunday Markets and then onto the golf club for a quick 9 holes. We played surprisingly well. Fliss is actually a really good player and I just enjoyed being there. We did have to share the course with kangaroos, who weren’t getting out the way for anyone and kookaburras who were clearly just there for the giggles!

On the way back from golf we stopped into woolies for tonight’s dinner ingredients and even though I suggested we could easily find a taxi, it was decided that we’d walk the 30 mins back to the park with our heavy shopping bags. Now I didn’t climb a mountain in the morning and I was buggered… Felicity is a machine!

Tonight’s dinner – crispy skin salmon and prawns in a beurre blanc sauce with a side salad of spinach, avocado and goats feta…. I’m making the most of it while Fliss is here!
