Brisbane Babes

After a teary airport drop off, I waved Felicity off and made my way over to my friend Jodie’s house… I’ve know Jodie since back in the hospo days as well… Blog followers will remember Jode and her husband, Andre living in Shanghai and Singapore where they were living the life and I was visiting the life. Now they’re back in sunny QLD and I couldn’t pass up the opporchancity to call in, and pick up where we left off.

Then on to see the Lunatics – Madelina, Archie B and Chasey McChaserson. Most readers will have heard of Madds… friend, travel companion and a gold medalist in the ‘Oh what a feeling’ Toyota Jump event. Archie is a wisecracking tweenager with the best mullet I’ve ever had the chance to braid…. and that’s Chase at the bottom.

Brisbane was a weekend of chatting, catching up, doing washing, shopping for Fern supplies, unpacking Fern’s boot to try and maximise the room… pumping up tyres on the bike and taking her for a spin up and down the street… and then repacking the boot with items found in Madd’s garage.

Me: “I need to get some of those squishy square tiles to line the boot area.”
Madds: [holding up the exact squishy square tiles I was referring to] “like these ones?”

We laughed and ate Madd’s exquisite food offerings…. slow cooked lamb shoulder, tasty nachos and fan favourite –‘Eggs Madeline’. I’m not sure this dish can be replicated by anyone else due to the amount of love that goes into it. So delicious, it was gone before I even thought to take a picture….

Esparragos blancos – white asparagus from Spain. When we were in Barcelona earlier this year, we lined up to purchase this tin of fat juicy goodness from a food market in honour of Me Jen. She loved them and was always on the look out for them. Madds took the tin home knowing that we would break them out when I got to Brisbane with Fern. We experimented putting them on toast, toast with Vegemite, toast with Vegemite and pickled beetroot (this was a step too far for me – too many elements on the plate), but toast with Vegemite and cojonudos is now a favourite.

We played Uno until our fingers bled and then all too quickly, it was time to go 🙁

Direction: north.
