Northward Bound

The next leg was going to be a lot of driving and as I’m writing this on the anniversary of my Dad’s passing I realise that I’m channeling him. He loved to drive. He once drove all the way to Melbourne from Geraldton, arrived and played some pool with his grandsons, then got up the next day and drove back. I know I’m not that much of a Maverick, but I’m starting to understand why he loved it so much.

My goal is to reach Townsville to meet up with Tammy & Matt and their gorgeous daughter, Alara – fabulous friends who I’ll be hanging with for the next month.

A couple of BIGs and much rain along the way.

I caught up with my Cousin, Yasmin and her husband, Paul in Hervey Bay which worked out well to be in the same place at the same time. Well done you guys!

Then, further north… some more BIGs, a look in at 1707 and a chat and a laugh with a local.

I chose a free camp just south of Gladstone for the night – this would be my first free camp and there were a few other people there already and as the sun went down and I was tucked up cosy in Fern, I could hear more vans arriving in the rain.

Mackay was the next destination – staying on the Northern Beaches and it was sublime! I had a great spot right on the beach… cooked my own ‘not very fabulous feast without Felicity’ of sausages and under no circumstance was there a salad – in true Col style.

Make sure you watch the video at the bottom for a cute treat.

Next stop? TOWNSVILLE!!!!!

  1. awww Col. Your driving is a beautiful tip of the hat to him. Though, you are probably stopping a little too often for his liking😘. Make sure you have a beer tonight out of his stubby holder. 🍻

  2. Your beachside camping spot looks so idyllic. We head north today so hope to see you in Broome one day!
